Welcome!

Charlie Bethel is the proud owner/operator of the following solo shows:

Beowulf: an ancient tale. A hero comes from across the sea to save the kingdom from an evil, man-eating monster and its equally demonic mother, only to die in battle with an avaricious dragon. Life is short and mostly painful. Get a helmet.

Gilgamesh: an even more ancient tale. The deeply flawed king and his wild-man sidekick take on elemental forces and gods. When the wild-man dies, the king undertakes a rescue mission to the underworld, where he finds out that life really is just as hopeless as he had feared and that this hopelessness pales compared to the shame the gods bear in relation to their mysterious secret.

Seven Poor Travellers: Based on the Dickens novella, our protagonist, Richard Doubledick (that’s right, kids!) rises from Private to Major during the Napoleonic Wars, and witnesses the death of his best friend. When he sets out on a journey of vengeance, instead of quenching his taste for blood, he discovers the value of the forgiveness that trumps revenge. Love, friendship, war, redemption. At Christmas.

Tom Thumb, or, the Tragedy of Tragedies: based on the play by Henry Fielding. A solo, 18th century-style romp, bawdy and lascivious, with Heroes, Villains, courtiers, maids of honor, Ghosts, pages, guards, Rebels, daggers, Cow, trumpets, thunder, lightning, &c, &c, &c, and other Decorations proper to Tragedy. Music, song, dance, intrigue, love affairs, confetti cannons, swordfights and death. Solo show. Fast and funny. We kid you not.
